Welcome to the Social Care Innovators
The Social Care Innovators is a group for people keen to bring change and innovation to the social care sector.
We believe that working together with a shared aim we will be able to influence lasting changes to social care.
We have already achieved some great outcomes with the Green Heart For Social Care Initiative, The Care Library, and our People Plan for Social Care.
The group is chaired by Adam Purnell, Director of social care for the Institute of Health and Social Care (IHSCM) and Palvi Dodhia, COO Serene Care and IHSCM member.
The main group meets bi-monthly but we also have 7 subgroups that focus on their own specific areas that meet monthly.
Take a look below to explore our subgroups and we welcome you to join us!

The Care Library
Chaired by Caroline Bartle and Paul Featherstone. We are focusing on the Care Certificate, qualifications, workforce wellbeing and the school curriculum. We recently ran a survey to find out how frontline staff feel about the Care Certificate, and will be sharing the results shortly.
Chaired by Hayley Robertshaw, the Care Leaders Innovators Subgroup is for registered managers, providers/proprietors, and all round care leaders who want to take issues that are currently impacting the sector and come up with solutions to fix them. It’s a group for the sector by the sector.
Chaired by Morten Mathiesen. We are focusing on promoting digital skills in the sector, specifically for leaders and managers.
Chaired by Dr Kellyn Lee. We are the newest formed subgroup and are exploring how to make research more accessible and impactful in social care.
Chaired by Palvi Dodhia, Jasmeet Rai and Joan Bothma
The People plan subgroup focuses on promoting the People Plan as well as acting on the recommendations as undertaking a fresh consultation each year to produce and updated report.
The Institute of Health and Social Care Management and their People Plan Social Care Innovators Subcommittee, have published “A People Plan for Social Care” to help bring reform to the sector.
The Institute of Health and Social Care Management (IHSCM) are thrilled to have published their first People Plan for the Social Care workforce, on December 6th, following a 3-month consultation period, with members of the IHSCM and care providers /leaders/ and managers across the UK ensuring that it is by the sector instead of just for the sector.
The People Plan focuses on 5 key areas; public image, recruitment, retention and staff wellbeing, training and pay and conditions. Each of the 5 key areas in turn takes a look at what the current situation is and what good and outstanding practice is already happening, before making a total of 59 recommendations to central and local governments as well as recommendations for social care providers.
