How to help patients into shorter queues

Michael Hallsworth and Hannah Burd, have produced an interesting report on the work the Behavioural Insight Team (BIT) is undertaking to help clinicians determine the best referral route, (in terms of waiting times), for their patients.  A randomised trial has produced very good results, which, if replicated nationally, could see a 20 – 38% reduction in referrals to overstretched services and a re-direction to shorter waiting lists of up to 40,000 referrals a month.
