The problem of how to fund social care is one of the country’s most pressing issues . The Rt Hon Damian Green MP has produced a report for the Centre of Policy Studies which contains a bold solution to this problem.
His report, ‘Fixing the Care Crisis’, argues that the current system is unsustainable and fails to encourage local authority investment in services for older people. Instead, it suggests that the Government should use the state pension model to support the provision of social care via a new Universal Care Entitlement, which will also allow people to top up this provision from their savings or housing wealth via a Care Supplement.
