Jeremy Hunt, ex-health secretary and chairman of the health and social care select committee, said: ‘These numbers are truly shocking… hospital infections have been the deadliest silent killer of the pandemic… It surely strengthens the case for mandatory vaccination for frontline healthcare staff.’

With health officials desperate to prevent the wave of deadly infections that swept through care homes early in the pandemic, staff who still refuse to be vaccinated by November 11 will lose their jobs.
